Rumors about a new graphics card have been confirmed. MEGAsizeGPU, known for accurate NVIDIA leaks, shared that the RTX 4070 GDDR6 is in development. The card is currently being worked on under the codename PG141 SKU347.
The PG141 board design, already used for the RTX 4070 and RTX 4070 Ti, will stay the same for this new model. However, NVIDIA intends to use non-X GDDR6 memory for this version, which will operate at a lower speed of 20 Gbps instead of the previous 21 Gbps seen with GDDR6X technology. Consequently, the bandwidth will drop by 24 GB/s, from 504 GB/s to 480 GB/s.
Notably, the CUDA core count remains the same, with the new variant still featuring 5,888 cores. This will be the first NVIDIA GPU to use 20 Gbps GDDR6 memory, surpassing the speed of GDDR6X memory in RTX 30 series models below the 3090 Ti, which served as a testing platform for the RTX 4090.
The release timeline for this graphics card is unknown, and details about its marketing and sales locations are still unclear. If NVIDIA opts for a global release, the card will probably be officially introduced and offered through various custom designs. It’s evident that NVIDIA continues to develop the RTX 40 series, and this may not be the final card to feature more affordable memory options.
