ORICO GV100 Portable Solid State Drive Review

Final Thoughts
Being our second product from ORICO we can see a trend from them of solid products that perform quite well. While their previous product was just an enclosure the GV100 is a full on storage product. It is always interesting to see how these products perform, but in the case of the GV100 the performance was quite impressive. It beat out the ADATA SE800, which is also a USB 3.2 gen 2 drive and was only beat out by the Patriot EVLR, which is a Thunderbolt 3 drive. In most of our tests the drive performed right up-to or even past its advertised speeds of 940 MB/s. That is quite impressive for a portable drive.

Since this is a portable drive you want it to be small and the GV100 is very small. It can easily be put in your pocket or thrown in a laptop bag. It is quite light too. The keyring at the end of the drive is great if you planned to connect it to your keys, but I would have liked this part to be made of metal, not ABS plastic. Since it uses a single connection for both power and data you are not left carrying around a ton of cables either. ORICO includes both a Type-C and Type-C to Type-A cable so even if you don’t have a Type-C connection on your PC you can still use this drive.

The only things that we really see missing with this drive that we’ve seen from other drives is some sort of encryption and backup software. If those things are not a big deal to you then this is one very good portable solid state drive. ORICO also backs it up with a 3-year warranty. Right now you can pick up the drive at our favorite online retailer for $89.69, which we think is a great price. Overall ThinkComputers gives the ORICO GV100 Portable Solid State Drive a 9 out of 10 score.
