PNY Duo Link USB 3.2 Flash Drive Review

Setup & Usage

Since this is a USB flash drive if you plan to use it with your PC all you have to do is plug it into an open USB-A port in your PC and you’ll be good to go. If you are going to use it with an iPhone or iPad you plug it directly into the Lightning connector. When you plug it into the Lightning connector you’ll get a notice asking you if you allow the communication between the flash drive and the DUO Link 4 application.

Be sure to hit allow and the DUO Link 4 application will open. When you first open it up it will show how much space you have on the flash drive as well as your iPhone. At the top there is a Camera icon. If you press on it, it will open a camera application that will save images and photos you take directly to the flash drive. This could be useful, but this camera application is very limited I mean we don’t even know what resolution or frame rate we are shooting videos in and there are basically no settings.

Other options we have in the DUO Link 4 application are File Management, Transfer Media, and Backup. File management allows you to view files on both the flash drive and your iPhone. You can also transfer files in the file management section if you want to. Transfer Media is essentially the same, but when you open it, it will give you the option to select Photos, Videos, Music, or Documents. Now this is where I ran into some issues. Every time I hit Photo the app would crash. I really could not figure out why, but I was able to access my photos and transfer them using the File Management section. The app really is not that intuitive either. If you want to transfer a photo or video you actually have to press Multiselect in the top right then select the files you want to transfer. If you press simply on a video or photo it will open it up, but gives you no option to transfer it. The Backup section allows you to backup your entire phone or just your contacts.

For those wondering about the speed of the drive on PC, we ran CrystalDiskMark to test. Here are the results…
