At Gamescom 2024, Samsung Electronics unveiled its newest gaming monitors, featuring the standout Odyssey 3D with glasses-free 3D technology. The event, taking place in Cologne, Germany from August 21-25, 2024, is the largest global gaming exhibition, drawing over 1,400 exhibitors from various sectors. Samsung is showcasing its premium gaming monitors, including the Odyssey 3D as well as models from the Odyssey G6, G8, and G9 series. Their booth, spanning 800 square meters, is the largest and most immersive display the company has ever had.
The Odyssey 3D monitor employs advanced light field display (LFD) technology to convert 2D content into 3D images through a lenticular lens on the front panel. This system, enhanced by Eye Tracking and View Mapping, delivers a glasses-free 3D experience. Eye Tracking uses a built-in stereo camera to monitor eye movements, while View Mapping dynamically adjusts the image to improve depth perception in real-time.
The Odyssey 3D offers both 2D and 3D modes, letting users choose according to their preference. It comes in 27-inch and 37-inch sizes, boasting 4K resolution, a 1 ms gray-to-gray response time, and a 165 Hz refresh rate for smooth gameplay with minimal afterimages.
The monitor features an ergonomic design with a Height Adjustment Stand (HAS), tilt adjustment, FreeSync Premium, one DisplayPort 1.4, and two HDMI 2.1 ports. It also won the Best of Innovation award in the Gaming & eSports category at CES 2024.
Samsung is also broadening its Odyssey OLED series with three new models: the Odyssey OLED G95SD, G93SD, and G85SD. The G95SD and G93SD in the Odyssey OLED G9 series feature dual QHD resolution, a 32:9 ultra-wide screen, a 1,800R curved design, Smart Hub, Gaming Hub, a 240 Hz refresh rate, and a 0.03 ms gray-to-gray response time. The 34-inch Odyssey OLED G8 (G85SD) offers ultra-wide QHD resolution, a 21:9 screen ratio, and a 175 Hz refresh rate.
These models come equipped with Samsung’s OLED Safeguard to prevent burn-ins and OLED Glare Free technology to minimize light reflection, enhancing the overall viewing experience. The Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SD) earned a CES Innovation Award Honoree title in Computer Peripherals & Accessories at CES 2024.
