Mushkin Previewing a 4TB SSD at CES

Mushkin was also previewing a 4TB drive at the show. But how can that be when the SM2246EN controller only supports a 2TB capacity? Mushkin was able to solve this by basically putting two Reactor 2TB solid state drives on a single PCB. The drives are then joined together via JBOD with a separate controller.

Seagate Now Shipping World’s First 4TB Hard Drive with 1TB Platters

Seagate has reportedly begun shipping what it claims is the industry's first and only 4TB hard drive to utilize 1TB-per-platter technology. These drives can be found in Seagate's Barracuda 7200.15 series. Seagate says the four-platter design allows for the highest performance possible while doubling capacity and reducing costs, ultimately giving consumers the best of all worlds. The drive has 4000 GB of unformatted space, a 7,200 RPM spindle-speed, 64 MB buffer, and SATA 6 Gb/s interface.
