TRYX has never been afraid to do something different with its liquid CPU coolers. The Panorama introduced us to its massive curved AMOLED display, while the Stage took a different approach with two separate screens. With the HOLO, TRYX is once again trying something we have not seen on an all-in-one liquid cooler before, and the holographic visual effect certainly makes it stand out.
When it comes to thermal performance, the HOLO did a good job in our testing, but the results were nothing amazing. It performed well enough to keep our processor under control. Still, there are other 360 mm liquid coolers that can deliver similar or better thermal results, so cooling performance alone is not the main reason you are going to pick up the HOLO.
Installation was relatively straightforward, although we really wish TRYX had included a universal mounting bracket. Having a single bracket that worked across the supported Intel and AMD platforms would have made the installation process easier and eliminated the need to swap mounting hardware depending on the processor socket. This is a small complaint, but it is something that would improve the overall user experience.
Of course, the main reason to consider the HOLO is its holographic display. The floating visual effect looks very cool and gives the cooler a unique appearance that you simply are not going to get from a traditional LCD or OLED screen. KANALI also gives you plenty of customization options, including TRYX presets, GIPHY integration, custom media, and hardware-monitoring information. That being said, the 640 x 480 display will not provide the same sharpness, clarity, or overall image fidelity as the higher-resolution screens found on other premium liquid coolers. You are essentially trading image quality for the holographic effect, so which option is better will come down to personal preference.
At $179.99, the TRYX HOLO is priced more reasonably than many premium coolers with large displays. You are getting a 360 mm radiator, a single-frame ARGB fan array, a six-year cooler warranty, and one of the most unique displays currently available on an AIO. Its cooling performance may not be class-leading and the screen is not especially sharp, but neither of those things prevents the HOLO from being an interesting option.
