WD My Passport 5TB Portable Hard Drive Review

WD’s My Passport drives have been synonymous with portable storage for as long as I can remember. While they might have just started as portable hard drives, WD now backs them up with some pretty awesome backup software, password protection, and 256-bit AES hardware encryption. The 2019 My Passport has a sleek and very portable design, a USB 3.2 gen 1 connection, and is available in capacities all the way up to 5TB. We have that 5TB version in today to see what it is all about!

Special thanks to WD for providing us with the My Passport 5TB Portable Hard Drive to review.

The WD My Passport comes in a retail box that is not much larger than the drive itself. On the front there is a picture of the drive and it lets us know the capacity, which in our case is 5TB.

Flipping the box over to the back there is a list of the contents, compatibility, and a little but about the drive in a handful of different languages.

Getting everything out of the box we have the My Passport drive, USB cable, and a user’s guide. WD is using a USB to USB Micro B cable with this drive, which makes sense at this drive has larger power requirements than say a portable SSD.
