WD Software
The My Passport Ultra comes with three different pieces of software. The first is WD SmartWare, which is a backup software. It allows you to set a full system backup or select specific files or folders to backup. If you upgrade to the Pro version of the software it includes cloud backup to Dropbox.
Next we have WD Drive Utilities, this application has a very different utilities built into it. First there are a few diagnostics tests that include a SMART status check, quick drive test, and complete drive test.
If you want to save power you can actually set a sleep timer for your drive. This is the amount of idle time before the drive goes to sleep.
Finally there is a secure erase feature that will completely wipe your drive.
The last piece of software is WD Security that enables you to set a password for the drive. The data part of the drive will not be able to be accessed unless you input the correct password.
The review was excellent Bob, I have been using WD for many years, with external and internal, I have recently switched over to SSD now that the prices have fallen so drastically, and my need for storage next to some of you guys is minimal, I max out at about 5 Tbs and back it all up into Cloud storage. When WD came out with their metal Anniversary Edition, it was unique enough to purchase, and yes I am into asthetics LOL.
