Zotac Shows off ZONE Gaming Handheld at Computex

Last week Zotac teased an upcoming gaming handheld and it was on full display at Computex this week! Zotac is calling this handheld their ZONE. It will feature a Ryzen 7 8840U “Hawk Point” APU, 16GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, as well as a 7-inch AMOLED screen that has a 120 Hz refresh rate. The Ryzen 7 8840U is a “Zen4” processor with 8 cores and 12 RDNA3 compute units.

The screen is an interesting one as it has been confirmed to be a native portrait screen. Some gamers have complained about these type of screen for lackluster Windows and game support for panels like this. While others have said it really only affects a small number of screens and games, but there could be an instance of the game displaying in the wrong direction. The screen also has no VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support.

Zotac Zone

This is one of the larger gaming handhelds out there with official dimensions of 310mm x 135mm x 40mm, which makes it larger than the Steam Deck and even the brand new ROG Ally X, which includes the 64% larger battery. Talking about the battery the unit will have a 48.5 Wh battery with a default TDP of 15W and maximum of 28W.

Zotac is planning to launch the Zone in September with a price of $800. I would expect this price to change by then as other faster alternatives will be out by then at more competitive prices.
