AMD Unveils Radeon Pro W7900 “Dual Slot” Workstation GPU, Priced At $3,499

AMD is launching a new variant of its flagship workstation graphics card, the Pro W7900. This new version, known as “Dual Slot” or DS, is a slimmer iteration of the design first unveiled in April 2023.

The Radeon Pro W7900 Dual Slot (DS) is specifically designed for multi-GPU setups in workstations. As tasks become increasingly complex and demand more powerful graphical processing, the ability to integrate multiple GPUs into a single system offers significant advantages.

The newly announced W7900DS is a Navi 31 with a full count of 6144 Stream Processors. It also retains the 48GB GDDR6 ECC memory found in the original 2.5-slot design. This card has the same 28 cm length and maintains the same Typical Board Power (TBP) of 295W.

AMD is also upgrading its ROCm platform to version 6.1. This Radeon Open Compute stack has seen multiple updates since the release of RDNA3 GPUs, as AMD has been progressively incorporating consumer-grade (gaming) hardware to support this library. The latest update was in February, but the new version now includes support for the Radeon PRO W7900 Dual Slot.

The W7900DS will be priced at $3,499, which is actually lower than the initial release price of the W7900.
