AUO Teases 49-Inch Gaming Monitor With 360Hz Refresh Rate

Nowadays, we have many options for superwide gaming monitors, including big 49-inch panels from companies like ASUS, Samsung, and LG. And it looks like there’s going to be one more option soon! Display maker AUO is planning to showcase a couple of new high-speed gaming monitors at the Touch Taiwan trade event, one of which is also a massive 49-inch screen.

While we don’t have all the details yet, AUO has given us a little taste of what to expect. According to the display maker, their upcoming 49-inch monitor is specifically designed for real-time strategy gamers and boasts a 5K resolution panel (with a 32:9 aspect ratio) and 360Hz refresh rate. Additionally, it’ll have a curved screen with an R1000 curvature.

Through its exquisite 5K high-resolution display capabilities and native VA contrast ratio of 5000:1, it achieves the ultimate contrast performance, demonstrating unrivaled advantages in dark scene games and ushering gamers fully into the gaming world”

Basically, the 49-inch monitor offers the experience of having two monitors without the interruption of a bezel in the middle. While there’s no word yet on what other features we can expect, we’re keeping our eyes peeled for details like G-Sync and FreeSync support, peak brightness, potential HDR support, and what type of backlighting it’ll have. And of course, we’re all waiting to find out how much it’ll cost.

To give you an idea of where the AUO monitor might stand in terms of price and features, let’s take a look at a couple of comparable models. Samsung’s 49-inch Odyssey Neo G9, which has a 4K resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, G-Sync and FreeSync support, and mini LED backlighting, currently sells on Amazon for $1,773.08. Meanwhile, LG offers the Deco Gear 49-inch monitor with a 4K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate for $829.99 on Amazon. Although we already know that AUO’s upcoming model is faster, we’ll have to wait and see how it stacks up in terms of features and overall value.

AUO has another treat in store for gamers who value speed above all else: a 24-inch gaming monitor with an incredibly fast 540Hz refresh rate. According to AUO, this makes it the “world’s highest refresh rate display,” although availability is key. ASUS previously announced their own 540Hz gaming monitor, the ROG Swift Pro PG248QP, but it has yet to be released for retail. While there aren’t any other concrete details available at the moment, AUO is promising a “premium picture quality” to complement the lightning-fast refresh rate, resulting in an “unprecedented” smooth gaming experience.

It is important to keep in mind that in order to fully utilize ultra-high refresh rates, you’ll need a graphics card that’s up to the task. However, the fact that the upcoming AUO monitor will have a Full HD 1080p resolution rather than a more demanding 1440p or 4K resolution should help with this. It’s also worth noting that super-high frame rates are usually only achievable in less demanding esports games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and similar titles.
