Cooler Master MP860 Dual-Sided RGB Mousepad Review

Setup & Lights

Since the MP860 is a mousepad you can just put it on your desk and start using it, but if you want to make use of the RGB LEDs you’ll need to plug it into an open USB port on your computer. Once plugged in, it should be recognized by Windows. To control the LED effects you’ll need to download the Cooler Master Portal software. This software is actually different than the Cooler Master Portal software that we used on multiple keyboard recently. You can find the correct download on the MP860 product page. Also for reference the correct software is just called “Portal” in Windows, while the keyboard control software is called “Cooler Master Portal”. While you are on the download page it is probably a good idea to download and install the new firmware too, some of the effects did not work for us until we downloaded the latest firmware.

With all of that out of the way we can open the Portal software to control and set the different LED effects. In the software you are shown a live view of the effect that you are setting. You have the ability to choose colors, set brightness, speed of each effect, and the LED direction. Effects include Static, Color Cycle, Breathing, Rainbow Wave, Stars, Marquee and Custom.

The LEDs on the mousepad are quite bright actually, but of course you can turn them down. Out of all of the effects my favorites were Rainbow Wave and Marquee. The lighting on the mousepad will definitely make it stand out on your desk.
