Drop + Lord of the Rings Mordor Artisan Keycaps Review

Drop + Lord of the Rings Mordor Keycap Overview

As I mentioned previously, there are three unique keycaps in the Mordor set – The Morgul Fellbeast, Sauron The Dark Lord, and The Eye of Barad-dûr. While each keycap has its own unique design, they all hale from the folks over at Dwarf Factory, and feature handcrafted details that you will only find on artisan-type products. The attention to detail is amazing, with each keycap having fine details molded into their design, and an array of colors and finishes that make each one a work of art. With an SA style, there is plenty of height to provide enough depth to the molds to really make them shine. And speaking of shine, the high-gloss resin exterior of each keycap is crystal clear, letting you get a good look at the artwork below.

Now, if you are expecting a lot of shine-through for your RGB-enabled keyboard, you might be slightly disappointed, as the solid base of the keycaps isn’t going to allow for any light to pass through. That being said, surrounding light coming from other keys will still be able to glow through the keycap, so not all is lost. Just don’t expect the Eye of Barad-dûr to glow brightly when you put it on an illuminated keyboard.

The bottoms of the keycaps are quite sturdy, with robust stem surrounds and good cohesion with the glossy resin to make sure there aren’t any issues with separation of materials.

Check out an overview of each keycap below.

Morgul Fellbeast

Tasked with transporting the Nazgûl on their backs, the Morgul Fellbeast keycap features one of the creatures perched upon a platform, mouth open, screaming out into the air. The color-fade on the tail, along with the metallic and stone-like platform are just a few examples of colors and textures used in these awesome keycaps.

Sauron The Dark Lord

Sauron’s armored helm is front and center with this design, a red glow coming from the eye and nose holes. Eons of wear and tear have etched themselves in the helm, but don’t go on thinking that there is any form of weakness in this keycap design. If you are looking for something menacing to along with your Black Speech keyboard, this is it.

The Eye of Barad-dûr

This keycap is probably my favorite out of the bunch, as it is just such an iconic symbol from this awesome fantasy world. The blend of reds, yellows, and oranges really helps this keycap stand out, and the ornate surrounding material has been highlighted in blacks, silvers, and golds to really emphasize the look of power and dominance. I swear this thing shifted over to look at me one time.
