HAVIT HV-KB395L Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Usage

We have had the HAVIT HV-KB395L for an extended testing period, and have used it as our daily driver in our office for the entire time. Most of our use of this keyboard has been with regards to your standard office work tasks like writing emails, creating documentation, etc. And while we have a strong preference for Red and Brown style mechanical switches, the HV-KB395L’s low-profile Kalih Blue switches really impressed us. Though they can be a bit loud at times, the tactile response and low 3mm travel of the PG1350 switches makes typing for long periods of time quite enjoyable.

Our gaming testing consisted of multiple PUBG and Fortnite Battle Royale rounds, and this is where our preference for Red and Brown switches was most noticeable. Having grown so accustomed to the feel of standard Red and Brown switches for gaming, it was tough to get used to the low key travel and keycap height while gaming. That being said, we were not really held back by the keyboard, and we are sure that after a longer period to adjust to the low-profile Kalih switches, we would be gaming like normal again.

Final Thoughts

Well, it looks like our initial idea that the HAVIT HV-KB395L would be a winner stands true. While not a feature-packed keyboard with all of the bells and whistles, the HV-KB395L packs quite a punch into a very thin package. The low-profile Kalih PG1350 mechanical switches offer a standard Blue-style key experience in a shallow package, making for a great typing experience in our testing. And while there were a few drawbacks like slight flexing at times, and a lack of USB pass-through and no wrist rest, the HV-Kb395L is still a unique product that deserves a look.

With both on-board and software customization available, the HV-KB395L can be taken on the go and customized without the need for additional software. If added functionality is needed, simply install the HAVIT software and make adjustments as needed. Also making things a bit easier for those that might travel with this keyboard is the removable USB cable. With such a low profile, the keyboard can easily find itself at home in a backpack for easy transportation.

If you are looking for something unique to serve as your keyboard, something that doesn’t scream “I’m a gaming keyboard”, yet offers all of the advantages of mechanical switches in a slim package, the HAVIT HV-KB395L is definitely worth considering.
