Huawei Takes Over Apple As The 2nd Largest Smartphone Company In The World

It looks like Huawei has hit a milestone and it has taken over the number 2 spot on the smartphone manufacturers list, beating Apple. While this is a great accomplishment for Huawei it looks like it might be short-lived as Apple is planning to announce the iPhone 8 next month.

Huawei and Apple

Counterpoint research director Peter Richardson has this to say about Huawei’s success…

“This is a significant milestone for Huawei, the largest Chinese smartphone brand with a growing global presence. It speaks volumes for this primarily network infrastructure vendor on how far it has grown in the consumer mobile handset space in the last three to four years. The global scale Huawei has been able to achieve can be attributed to its consistent investment in R&D and manufacturing, coupled with aggressive marketing and sales channel expansion.”

Huawei still has not established a strong relationship with US-based carriers and even though their unlocked phones are sold in the US, US-based customers are more enticed by offers made by carriers that are selling Apple and Samsung devices. Huawei is talking with AT&T so we could see Huawei phones offered in the US soon.
