HYTE Y40 PC Case Review

Final Thoughts

HYTE has some large shoes to fill when following up the Y60 case. As I mentioned at the beginning of this review it was one of our favorite cases of last year. With the Y40 they have simplified the design, made the case smaller, but kept a lot of the features that made the Y60 so great. The biggest change of course is removing the 45-degree angle at the front of the case. This gives the Y40 a more traditional tower shape, but HYTE has kept the tempered glass on the front and side so this is still a case where you can really show off your build.

The paint job on the case is excellent and I really like how HYTE has used design language on the case to make it unique. Having white, black, and red versions available right off the bat is awesome as well. With each color of the case you are going to get a matching PCI-Express 4.0 riser. Other cases come with risers, but they aren’t colored to match the case and your build overall.

Building inside the Y40 is pretty easy and we did not really run into any issues. It was also nice to see plenty of tie-down points on the back of the motherboard tray.

With all of the things we like about this case there are some downsides to it. The one that stands out the most is the fans, they are noticeably loud. The main reason for this is that they are RPM fans not PWM fans. This means that they are going to run at the same speed all of the time. On top of that the power supply cover really hampers the performance of that bottom fan. With those two things this was actually one of the loudest cases we’ve reviewed lately and did not have the best thermal performance.

Even with these shortcomings I still really like the Y40. HYTE has their own sort of style and design when it comes to these Y-Series cases and we are all for it. If you are looking for a case to show off your hardware that is not your typical mid-tower this is a case that should definitely be on your list. Right now you can pick this case up at our favorite online retailer for $149.99. Overall ThinkComputers gives the HYTE Y40 an 8 out of 10 score.
