Intel Core i9-7980XE 18-Core Processor Review

Overclocking
Overclocking on Skylake-X is not all that hard at all if you are familiar with Intel overclocking. First it is a good idea to set the BCLK to 100.00 MHz, so you do not have any fluctuations. Then set your CPU clock ratio to what you are looking to hit. We are shooting for 4.4 GHz so we set our CPU clock ratio to 44.

Next you will need to adjust your voltage so your system will remain stable during full load. From my testing it seemed like 1.8V or 1.9V for CPU input was pretty safe and then the CPU Vcore was actually set on auto, but you could adjust it if you wanted to.

With these settings we were able to get a stable overclock of 4.4 GHz on all 18 cores. Now temperatures did get up there, around 87C during stability testing, and that is with a NZXT Kraken X52. So you are going to want to keep that in mind.

So how does overclocking effect performance? Here are a few tests running the CPU at 4.4 GHz on all eight cores.
