MSI Announces WRX80; A Monster Motherboard For AMD Threadripper PRO With CPU & Memory OC Support

The AMD Ryzen Threadripper & Threadripper PRO family along with its flagship & monstrous WS WRX80 motherboard are under development by MSI.

MSI is manufacturing the brand new WS WRX80 which is a Monster Motherboard. It is being made for AMD Threadripper Pro With CPU & Memory OC Support & Frozr Cooling Design.

This is MSI’s only design for AMD’s Threadripper PRO family. This new product is full of interesting features, and will be called MSI WS WRX80 motherboard. The motherboard has been manufactured for both AMD Threadripper PRO 3000WX and Threadripper PRO 5000WX CPUs. AMD has recently revealed its Zen 3 workstation family but so far has limited it to Lenovo. This is going to be our first verification that the 5000WX parts are just timed-exclusive for Lenovo and will be coming to the wider DIY segment shortly.

The MSI WS WRX80 motherboard is equipped with a powerful VRM design that is integrated on a 14 layer PCB and 2oz thickened copper has been used for it. It is equipped with 11 VRM phases and 105A digital power SPS units, wrapped by an aluminum stacked fin array heat sink. The dual 8-pin connectors and a 24-pin ATX connector power the motherboard.

MSI WS WRX80 also has a horizontally placed SP3 socket which has 4 DIMM slots on each side making a total of 8 DDR4 DIMM slots. The memory support has clock rates of around 3200 Mbps and up to 2 TB capacities. The motherboard has Threadripper 5000WX chips which allow both memory and CPU overclocking capabilities with AMP support.

As far as expansion options are concerned, the motherboard has 7 metallic, reinforced PCIe Gen 4.0 x16 slots; these slots run at full x16 lane speeds. At the bottom side of the board dual 6-pin connectors are present at the bottom of the board to ensure proper ATX power supply when running multiple add-in cards. 8 SATA III ports and dual Turbo U.2 ports are the storage options. Moreover, it is equipped with Lightning Gen 4 M.2 ports next to the WRX80 PCH heatsink. The PCH heat sink has an aluminum heatsink with a Twin Frozr heatsink fan with 0db tech and can be disabled manually.
