OCZ RevoDrive 350 480GB PCI-E Solid State Drive Review

OCZ RevoDrive 350 Overview
The RevoDrive 350 does not look like your typical solid state drive as it is set up as a PCI-Express device, much like a graphics card. On the top of the drive there is a large aluminum heatsink / cover.

On the top of the cover is a reflective emblem that has the RevoDrive 350 and OCZ logos. The cover not only protect the vital components of the drive, but also keeps the controllers nice and cool.

Flipping the drive over we can see its green PCB. We can actually see the four separate solid state drives that make up the 480 GB of data on the RevoDrive 350. Each one of the four drives is powered by a LSI SandForce SF-2282 controller and features Toshiba 19 nm MLC NAND chips. We can see four NAND chips (per drive) on this side of the PCB, but there are four more on the other side as well.

Also on the other side of the RevoDrive 350 is OCZ’s VCA 2.0 controller. This controller offers a RAID configuration across all four drives, load balancing and command line queuing. This controller also is SATA to PCI-Express bridge, that is how the drives are able to communicate via the PCI-Express connection. With the RevoDrive 350 OCZ has used PCI-Express 2.0 x8 connection, which technically offers twice the bandwidth as the previous generations PCI-Express 2.0 x4 connection.

Finally if you look at the rear slot cover on the card it is ventilated to help keep things nice and cool.
