OCZ RevoDrive 350 480GB PCI-E Solid State Drive Review

Final Thoughts
I have been a fan of OCZ’s RevoDrive series since it first debuted many years ago. Since then OCZ has always made improvements over the previous generation products. With the RevoDrive 350 OCZ has gone with 19 nm low-power Toshiba NAND memory, which of course comes compliments of Toshiba’s acquisition of the company earlier this year. Also the newer RevoDrive 350 has a more simple and better looking design. The aluminum cooling solution and casing really do look great. OCZ has also made this drive far more affordable than their previous RevoDrive products, again we think Toshiba has a lot to do with this.

OCZ RevoDrive 350

As you can see OCZ’s places this product in the Workstation category and rightfully so. If you want faster speeds than the 550 MB/s cap that typical 2.5-inch SATA drives hit then this is a very viable option. You could buy two SATA drives and put them in a RAID 0 configuration, but the RevoDrive performance would still be better and it is a single device that just looks better. Essentially it is four SSDs in a RAID configuration on a PCI-Express card. In our testing with ATTO Disk Benchmark the drive scores a very impressive 2014 MB/s read and 1880 MB/s read! That makes it the fastest solid state drive that we have ever tested.

The RevoDrive 350 is extremely easy to setup, just install it in an extra PCI-Express slot. If you have installed a video card before you can get the RevoDrive 350 setup. Now just install the supplied drivers so Windows recognizes the drive and you a good to go. This drive is also Windows bootable, which can’t be said for many PCI-Express solid state drives out there.

At the end of the day OCZ improved upon the previous version of this drive and came out with a better product at a better price point, although this drive will cost you more than your typical solid state drive. The 480 GB version that we reviewed today sells for $809.99 (240 GB: $512, 960 GB: $1230). At this price the drive really is reserved for workstation and enthusiast users who want the fastest speed possible. Overall ThinkComputers gives the OCZ RevoDrive 350 480 GB Solid State Drive a 10 out of 10 score and our Editor’s Choice Award!
