Patriot Viper VXD M.2 SSD Enclosure Review

Final Thoughts

There are plenty of fast portable storage options these days. There are a few reasons why the VXD really shines compared to say a normal portable solid state drive. First you can install your own drive in it. This means that you can use an older drive that may just be sitting around as you’ve upgraded from a Gen3 drive to a Gen4 drive in your desktop. This also allows you to use your drive in different scenarios as well. Say you use the VXD for a while, but have a friend that is building a PC, you can take the drive out and it turns into a nice gift for a friend for their new build. With a normal portable SSD you can’t do that.

When it comes to getting your drive installed it couldn’t be easier. Even for someone who’s never installed an M.2 drive before installation shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. I really like that we do have some RGB lighting on the enclosure too. It just makes the VXD really stand out compared to a normal portable SSD.

If you have an old NVMe solid state drive laying around why don’t you make use of it with the Viper VXD. Having fast portable storage is great for traveling, having an external game drive, or even having a drive you take to and from work. If anything it would be nice to see a USB 3.2 gen 2×2 version of this enclosure eventually.

Right now you can pick up this enclosure at our favorite online retailer for $34.99. Overall ThinkComputers gives the Patriot Viper VXD M.2 SSD Enclosure 9 out of 10 score!
