Patriot Viper VXD M.2 SSD Enclosure Review

Patriot Viper VXD Enclosure Overview

Taking a first look at the Viper VXD it is pretty small, around the same size as many of the portable solid state drives we’ve reviewed in the past. For those wondering the official dimensions are 110 mm x 43 mm x 13.8 mm. The enclosure itself is made of aluminum. On the front of the unit it says “VXD” real big in the center.

Flipping over to the back we don’t have much, but there is a hex bolt that you’ll need to remove to access the M.2 controller card inside the enclosure.

On one end of the drive is a single USB-C connection which will provide both power and data to the drive. This is a USB 3.2 gen 2 enclosure so the max speeds you’ll see from your installed drive will be around 1000 MB/s.

Removing the hex bolt we can remove the internal section of the drive which houses the M.2 controller card and has some diffusion built into it for the RGB lighting.
