The most exciting thing about the ROG Ally X (2024) is the price drops for existing handheld models. Just over a month after the launch of ASUS’s latest gaming device, the original ROG Ally has become more affordable than ever. The ROG Ally, which came out last year with either the Ryzen Z1 or Ryzen Z1 Extreme, was initially priced at $699 and $599, respectively. The non-Extreme Z1 model had been seen for as low as $299, but that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

The big news is that the Extreme version, which also includes 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, is now priced at $499, a $200 reduction from its original MSRP. This deal gets even more intriguing when you factor in the Lenovo Legion Go, which is now available for just $544—a record-low price for this console.

At the moment, ASUS isn’t anticipated to release any new handheld devices soon, and Lenovo also hasn’t hinted at any upcoming products. While there were rumors about a Lite version with a 7-inch screen, the company has yet to confirm it.

For now, there’s no indication that the newer Zen5-based AMD Strix Point APUs will be available in handhelds, although this could change at any moment. There is a “handheld” reportedly featuring this processor, but it isn’t specifically designed for gaming.

Regarding Intel, MSI is anticipated to release its Lunar Lake-based handheld, but not before September. The impact on pricing will depend on how it performs and is priced, which could either drive prices down further or not influence them much.
