ROCCAT Sova MK Gaming Lapboard Review

ROCCAT Sova Overview
So what is a Lapboard exactly? It is a device that is meant to sit on your lap that has a keyboard and mousepad area embedded into it. The Sova has official dimensions of 64.6 cm x 28.0 cm x 3.7 (WxLxH). This makes to so you can have an enjoyable gaming experience that feels like you are sitting at a desk.

The Sova itself is mostly made of high-grade plastic, it feels like a solid device, not something that would easily break. To the far left you have the mousepad, which by our measurements is about an 11-inch x 9-inch square. It gives you more than enough room. Below the keyboard is wrist rest area. Both the mouse pad and wrist rest area sections are removable and replaceable.

The keyboard that is built into the Sova is not a full-size keyboard as it lacks a full number pad. There are no macro keys or extra keys, but they top row of keys have a few different functions. Also the keyboard can be completely repgorammed and like most of ROCCAT’s products the Sova features Easy-Shift[+] which allows a second command to be programmed to each key.

We of course received the mechanical or MK version of the Sova so we have mechanical key switches. These switches are the TTC mechanical key switches. They have a less clicky feel and a little less tactile feedback, but are very similar to Cherry MX Brown switches. As you can see each key is individually backlit, no RGB here though, just blue LEDs.

Flipping the Sova over on the bottom you see four cushions. These will keep things comfortable for you during gaming sessions, especially long ones. The cushions are also removable if you for some reason want to use the Sova on your desk or need to replace them.

Also on the back is your connection cable, which is actually a short breakaway cable that connects to larger included cable. There are also two extra USB ports back there. This way you can connect your headset and mouse. There is also a cable channel to organize your cables from other devices so you don’t have a big cable mess in your lap.
