Gamers who aren’t focused on top-tier visuals from OLED, Mini-LED, or IPS displays might consider a TN panel as a more budget-friendly option. Though the colors won’t be as vivid and the blacks can’t compare to OLED quality, TN panels offer a major benefit: they support high refresh rates.
In competitive gaming, like e-sports, a display’s refresh rate can be more crucial than image quality or resolution. Acer is launching a new, even faster gaming monitor for e-sports, the Nitro XV240 F6.
Acer’s new monitor boasts a 24.1-inch screen with a Full HD 1920×1080 resolution. While this resolution might not be the top choice for casual gaming in 2024, the monitor’s 600 Hz refresh rate surpasses the fastest current model, the 540Hz TN-based ASUS ROG Swift PG248QP. Despite the introduction of 1000 Hz panels, none are available for purchase yet.
As a TN panel, this monitor may not offer the same rich colors as IPS, VA, or OLED displays. However, Acer claims it covers at least 99% of the sRGB and 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamuts, which is promising. It also supports AMD FreeSync Premium and has a peak brightness of 400 nits in SDR mode, with DisplayHDR 400 certification.
The monitor will feature DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 connections. Although HDMI 2.1 could have supported higher refresh rates, HDMI 2.0 only allows up to 240 Hz. This choice was likely made to keep the monitor more affordable, resulting in some compromises.
Acer is also introducing the Nitro XV270 F5, a larger 27-inch IPS panel with Full HD resolution and a 520 Hz refresh rate, along with HDR10 certification. Additionally, the XV270U F5 will offer a higher 1440p resolution with a 500 Hz refresh rate, though its brightness is limited to 250 nits. The Nitro XV240 F6 is anticipated to launch next year, likely in the first quarter, with an estimated price of $599 in the US and €899 in Europe.
