MSI’s latest firmware update introduces a feature that allows users to increase the TDP beyond AMD’s official specifications. This option isn’t offered by AMD directly but can be accessed through the BIOS settings on MSI 600-series motherboards equipped with the latest AGESA 1.2.0.1 firmware. The new BIOS includes a “TDP to 105W” mode, which has been tested by kuroberu, who shared a screenshot of this option on the X670E MPG Carbon motherboard.

The AMD Ryzen 7 9700X and Ryzen 5 9600X are officially rated with a 65W TDP. Reviews have indicated that this can limit performance in gaming for these Zen5 desktop CPUs. Enabling the 105W TDP mode is anticipated to enhance performance by about 13%, based on kuroberu’s results.

There is no official confirmation yet that this feature is sanctioned by AMD or if it will be released soon. Wccftech, which has strong connections with MSI’s motherboard department, suggests that it might be included in the AGESA 1.2.0.2 release as an official option. It seems MSI has chosen to implement this feature sooner with the current firmware.

If this feature becomes officially endorsed by AMD, other motherboard manufacturers are likely to include similar options in their BIOS settings. BIOS updates offering this feature are anticipated to be released between September and October.
