Intel has announced that it will release its next-generation Xeon CPU series in September, marking the debut of a new naming convention for its data-center processors. This launch will spotlight two main products: Granite Rapids and Sierra Forest, both belonging to the Xeon 6 lineup, though they serve different purposes. Granite Rapids will offer up to 128 Performance cores built on the Redwood Cove architecture, similar to what is used in Meteor Lake. Meanwhile, Sierra Forest will be Intel’s first CPU to feature only Efficient cores, with a maximum of 288 cores.

The top-tier model in the Granite Rapids lineup is the Xeon 6 6980P, which Intel has officially confirmed through its submissions to the MLPerf Inference benchmarks. The 6980P will include 504 MB of Last Level Cache (LLC) and will operate at a base frequency of 2.0 GHz, with a power requirement of up to 500W. The series will also offer models with 32, 44, 56, 72, 96, and 120 cores. These processors are designed for a new platform that supports dual-socket configurations, using either the LGA-4710 or LGA-7529 sockets.

In June, Intel released the Sierra Forest-SP SKUs, which offer up to 144 cores. However, the company has not yet introduced the 288-core version, which is expected to be launched later.
