The ASUS ROG Ally X is set to be released today. Along with the updated version of ASUS’s handheld gaming device, a new iteration of the Armoury Crate software will also be released, tailored to enhance the user experience on the gaming handheld.

Armoury Crate Special Edition 1.5 incorporates all the improvements made since the original ROG Ally’s release. Initially quite basic, the software has been steadily updated by ASUS to include many useful features. These now include enabling gyro support for Steam input, adjusting the Ryzen Z1 Extreme’s TDP with a slider, and calibrating the sticks and triggers, among other enhancements.

The main goal of Armoury Crate is to provide a console-like experience for Windows systems. Although the ROG Ally and Ally X are complete Windows PCs, Windows is typically designed for use with a mouse and keyboard, not a small touchscreen and gamepad. Armoury Crate 1.5 significantly enhances game launcher support, featuring a completely revamped interface and new display options like list and horizontal modes.

The newest version allows for extensive customization of game profiles, enabling you to adjust settings such as the system’s power profile, controller configurations, and AMD driver options like Radeon Super Resolution and Fluid Motion Frames. While you can still make these adjustments manually, it’s convenient to set them up once and have them automatically applied for each game.

One of the standout features of the ROG Ally is the Armoury Crate overlay, which is fully customizable and offers a convenient way to adjust power profiles, framerate caps, input modes, and more. This functionality is preserved in the new version, which also adds a light mode option for those who prefer it. Additionally, a much-requested feature has been included: the ability to uninstall games directly from the front-end.

Armoury Crate SE 1.5 is launching today with the ROG Ally X and will come pre-installed on the new gaming handheld. Current Ally owners need not worry, as these updates will also be available for the standard Ally.
