CES 2012: Nyko

Are you ready for the PS Vita? Nyko is ready, and at CES 2012 they’ve proven their readiness by showing off their line of Vita launch products. Starting with the Speaker Stand that not only provides speakers for the Vita, but it also doubles as a charging dock and has an infrared remote. There’s also the Power Grip, Power Armor Kit, Power Kit and game case. Sticking with the speaker accessory theme, Nyko also has a Speaker Stand coming out for the Kindle Fire. The Kindle Fire’s Speaker Stand will also change the device, and it has a kickstand. The last Kindle Fire product Nyko showed was the Power Grip. It has a built in rechargeable battery to give the Kindle Fire an extra boost, an ergonomic grip, and a kickstand that can be used horizontally or vertically. Finally, Nyko is offering Yo Gabba Gabba! products. The first is a Brobee Hip Pack, with the other being the Muno Time.

Starting with the PS Vita products, the Speaker Stand was the first product that Nyko showed. As mentioned earlier, the Speaker Stand can charge the Vita while providing beefier audio output. I was not able to demo the Speaker Stand, however it looks nice and feels solid. It will retail for $29.99.

The second product Nyko showed me for the Vita was the Game Case. Nothing super fancy here except for another way to store your Vita games and memory cards. The case itself is slightly transparent, enough for you to see what’s in it without having to open it. Nyko said they had no plans for different colors, styles, or designs. It can hold up to 10 Vita games, or 8 games and 4 memory cards. The Game Case is set to retail for $4.99.

The Speaker Stand and Game Case will be available when the Vita launches. There are a few other products that Nyko has planned for the Vita launch but were not showing at CES. There’s the Power Kit which is basically a USB charger for the Vita. Although it comes with two adapters, one for a cigarette lighter and the other for a wall outlet. Pricing for the Power Kit will be $24.99.

The Power Armor Kit includes everything in the Power Kit except it also has a ‘hard armor’ case to protect the Vita, and a cloth for cleaning the Vita’s screen. The Power Armor Kit will retail for $29.99.

Finally, the Power Grip is a rechargeable ergonomic attachment for the Vita. It makes the Vita a bit easier to hold while providing three times the Vita’s normal battery life. It’ll retail at $24.99.

Nyko also showed off some products for the Kindle Fire. They’re mostly similar to the PS Vita products, a Power Grip, Speaker Stand. When I demoed the Power Grip, it was a bit on the heavy side, but I was told the final version was going to be a bit lighter. Although even with the weight, it was very easy to hold with one hand. Also, relocating the power button, is a nice addition. You can charge the Power Grip with the Kindle Fire’s charger, so no extra power cords are needed. The Power Grip also features a kickstand which can prop up the Kindle Fire in a vertical or horizontal orientation. And probably the best feature is the Power Grip will expand battery life by two times. Nyko couldn’t provide a specific release date but it’ll run $59.99.

The Speaker Stand wasn’t available for a hands-on demo, but it was on display. Very similar to the Vita’s Speaker Stand, the Kindle’s Speaker Stand can charge the Kindle Fire while the Fire is connected to it. Although, unlike the PS Vita Speaker Stand, the Kindle Fire’s Speaker Stand has a built in battery, so you can freely move your Fire around while still using the speakers. The built in battery will last about 2 hours, which is perfect for watching movies on the go. Like the Power Grip, the Speaker Stand also has a kickstand that’ll support the Fire in a vertical or horizontal orientation. Finally, the Speaker Stand package includes a stylus and will retail for $29.99.

Lastly, Nyko featured their Yo Gabba Gabba! products at CES 2012. They had the Brobee Hip Pack and Muno Time on display. The Brobee Hip Pack is a plush carrying case that can store a portable device like a iPod/Phone, 3DS, etc. It also includes a Brobee themed lens cleaning cloth, and you can detach Brobee’s mouth to make him smile or frown. Brobee Hip Pack will be available in Spring 2012 for $29.99.

Muno Time is an alarm clock with animated speakers, a 3DS/DS/DSi/DSi XL/DS Lite/iPod/iPhone dock, and it even features 30 full songs from Yo Gabba Gabba! that can be used as the alarm. It’ll be released in Spring 2012 and pricing isn’t final, but it should be somewhere from $50 – $70.
