Glorious GMMK Keyboard Oveview
So we received the tenkeyless version of the Glorious GMMK. They also offer it in full-size (104-key) and compact (60%) sizes. The first thing you notice is that the actual frame of the keyboard is not much larger than the area that the keys cover. Many people will appreciate this minimalistic design.
For those not familiar with the tenkeyless form factor it is basically a full-size keyboard without the number pad. This form factor is very popular with professional gamers and happens to be my favorite form factor when it comes to keyboards. Glorious uses an aluminum top plate on the keyboard so there is absolutely no flex.
On thing you’ll notice right away is the custom red ESC keycap that says “ASCEND” on it. It gives the keyboard a nice little touch. We really would have liked to have seen PBT double-shot keycaps on this keyboard, but they are ABS.
There are some alternate functions on this keyboard, the F1-F4 are shortcuts, F5-F11 are multimedia controls, Print Screen and Pause toggle between 6-key and N-key rollover, and there are a handful of keys that you can use for the RGB lighting.
The keycaps have a floating key design, which I do prefer and should help the RGB lighting look a bit better. On the top edge of the keyboard you’ll find a microUSB connection for the included cable.
Looking at the keyboard from the side we can see that it sits at a slight angle upward with the first three rows of keys angled down and the last three angled up. There are two pop-out feet on the bottom of the keyboard that will give the keyboard even more of an angle.
Flipping the keyboard over to the back there are four rubber feet that will keep the keyboard in place on your desk, the two pop-out feet, and a keycap puller, which has a nice little spot so you won’t ever lose it.
When it comes to switches the GMMK comes stock with Gateron Brown mechanical key switches. Keep in mind that you are able swap every switch on this keyboard out with the included switch puller. So say you wanted the WASD keys to have a different feel you swap out those switches. The GMMK supports Gateron, Cherry MX, and Kailh mechanical key switches.
