Speck PortPack Notebook Shoulder Bag Review

Speck PortPack Overview
The PortPack comes in 3 different colors: Speakeasy Grey Pinstripe, Restart Greyscale Pixel and Velocity Plum Stripe.  We received the Restart Greyscale Pixel version of the bag; I fell in love with this design after reviewing the Speck CorePack Fly Messenger Bag.  On the front of the bag there is a small Speck logo.

Opening the bag up you can see Speck has once again gone with the cool green interior.  There are 2 main compartments inside.  The first is for your laptop, the bag will fit laptops up to 15-inches or smaller.  Just like with all Speck bags the notebook compartment is lined with extra-plush micro-fleece and is nicely padded to protect your laptop.  The other compartment is just a plain compartment, but does have a hanging accessory bag.

When you lift up the flap to get into the bag you will see 2 pockets where you can put accessories.  The pocket on the left is designed for a media player so you can route your earphones out of it and keep your media player protected.  In between the 2 pockets are 2 slots for pens.  Below the 2 pockets is 1 very large pocket to store more accessories.  Inside of it you will find a hanging detachable key fob, which is always nice to have.

Moving around to the back of the bag there is another pocket that would be perfect for a magazine or a small book.  You will also notice a small zipper compartment above that.  When you open it up you will find a carrying handle.  Speck is one of the first companies that I’ve seen hide handles, it is pretty cool.

On the side of the bag there is an expandable water bottle pocket.  Inside the bag you will find the shoulder strap.  It is nicely padded and very comfortable.  It connects to the bag on each side with large buckles.  The buckles are hidden on each side of the bag, which is something I like as well.

  1. I definitely agree – shoulder bags are the way forward for laptop cases – the other ones can be really uncomfortable. One issue I had when trying to get one for work was the fact that the only laptop cases I could find for ages with shoulder straps that had enough padding to protect my computer properly were boring looking. Finally, after a few weeks of hunting I came across http://www.oliepops.com where I bought myself a gorgeous polka dot laptop case with shoulder strap for just £24.99! It’s perfect – it’s not only stylish but comes with loads of padding as well so I don’t have to worry about my computer getting knocked about and damaged too much on the tube. The service was brilliant too as I got to pay by Paypal and it was delivered the next day. They are also doing an offer at the moment where you can get 15% off anything if you type in the promotional code “Issy”.
