Announced in January and released shortly thereafter, the X1 is a versatile gaming handheld promoted as a 3-in-1 device. It serves as a tablet, a laptop with a detachable keyboard, and a gaming device with detachable controllers. The device launched with Intel Core Ultra processors, either the Core Ultra 5 125H or Core Ultra 7 155H. The company recently announced an upcoming AMD version.
The new handheld will be equipped with the Ryzen 7 8840U processor, AMD’s latest APU based on Hawk Point silicon. For gaming purposes, it’s essentially a Ryzen 7 7840U with a faster AI processor. Users will benefit from 8 Zen 4 cores and 12 RDNA 3 Compute Units. In synthetic benchmarks, the graphics performance is expected to be on par with the Intel Arc graphics integrated into the Meteor Lake CPU. However, in real-world scenarios, Intel GPUs tend to be noticeably slower, making the new X1 AMD version more optimal for gaming.
OnexPlayer has not announced the release date yet. However, the company confirmed it will feature a 10.95-inch 120 Hz screen and Harman-certified stereo speakers, identical to the Intel version. It appears that this system is simply receiving a hardware upgrade. Hopefully, the company will offer a side-by-side comparison of both versions.
Additionally, there is a new teaser for the X1 Mini which will have a smaller screen. Details are scarce, but it is confirmed to be AMD-based as well. The size suggests it could be around 8 inches, significantly smaller than the X1.
